This is wrestled under torneo cibernetico rules. What that means is there’s two teams with each team sequenced in batting order so that each man can only tag in the next man in the order. From there, the match is wrestled under elimination rules. However, only one person can win so if a team has more than one remaining survivor, they continue to wrestle until only one person leaves victorious. Luckily, I was familiar with this format from CHIKARA otherwise this would have been kind of confusing.
In this Cibernetico we have two teams of six, one for the tecnicos (Black Panther, Drone, Esfinge, Principe Diamante, Rey Cometa, & Star Jr.) and one for the rudos (Akuma, Disturbio, El Hijo del Signo, Kawato San, Templario, & Virus).
Once you have that in mind, it becomes easy to just switch off and watch the fireworks. This is a joyous piece of flashy wrestling. The tecnicos do all the dives you could possibly ask for. It’s spectacular and crowd pleasing in all the right ways. You even have the mini-story within the match of Black Panther taking the rudos to tope city, hitting seven suicide dives. Other standouts on the tecnico side are Star Jr. who makes the finals, Esfinge who has great interactions with Templario, and Rey Cometa who hits a sick handspring Destroyer. Meanwhile, Templario is clearly the star of the rudo team. He doesn’t do anything to spectacular for most of the match but he’s a steady base, providing clean and tight offense while bumping for everything the tecnicos throw at him. He does get to show off much more as the field thins and he endures into the finals, eventually winning the whole match.
It’s a well earned victory too. Templario has been a real revelation to me since I’ve tried to keep up with lucha libre this year. He’s been a fantastic television worker in his lightning matches and here he really gets to showcase himself with a major victory. I look forward to following Templario this year as more months like this will land him pretty high on a Wrestler of the Year list.
