Incredibly boring and grounds to spoil the strong WOTY case that Reigns had built. Roman is painfully exposed in this match. After spending half a year working exclusively with legendary workers, he’s presented his biggest test on this night by having to work with the broken carcass of Edge.

Unfortunately, this match is wrestled exactly like Edge is being held together with duct tape. Slow, dragged out, and boring. It’s made even more embarrassing with Edge trying to work with some of the notes Bryan left behind–trying to school Roman on the mat, working over the arm. Forgive me if anyone finds this an offensive take, but Edge is no Daniel Bryan.

A lame match that does a lot to shatter the illusion of Roman Reigns, unfortunately. He’s a great worker and I like him a lot but he’s not anywhere near good enough to carry a bag of bones to something watchable.

Here’s John Cena returning to the company instead.

John Cena compensating for Edge’s weaknesses and outshining him in every way? COVID’s still killing the third world, but this aspect of nature at least is healing.

  1. I didn’t think this match was totally awful but it was definitely boring for large stretches. Also, it absolutely did not need to go over half an hour. WWE’s insistence on making their main events these epic-length encounters without the agenting or booking abilities to justify it are one of the many, many reasons I fell off their product. Roman is damn good in his role right now but with the way his matches play out, you’d never know it.
