Dominic Garrini vs. Gary Jay (PPW Heavy Hitters 2 7/24/20)

Match Reviews

Sometimes you get really good matches on very bad shows. Such is the wonder of “The Bone Collector” Dominic Garrini.

This match came as part of the Heavy Hitters 2 tournament and was contested under UWFi rules. It’s a very precise and lengthy rule system that utilizes point scoring and I don’t have the patience to explain it here. What it generally comes down to is that you can lose by submission, knock out, or losing all your points as both wrestlers start with 15.

Garrini and Jay just cut through the pressure of trying to live up to the implications of the UWFi rules by just focusing on hitting each other really hard. And as I’ve said many times before, sometimes that’s enough. The chops look great, the kicks look great, there’s a sense of struggle. And for the first and only time in the tournament, points came in to play when announcers noted that Dom was down to his last five points which kicked him into overdrive to rush to get the win. It’s simple and it works. Go out off your way for this one, it’s a diamond in the rough. Very rough.
