A delightful piece of technical back and forth here. Jan Evander might be one of the most technically proficient wrestlers in the entire country. I mean that in the most fundamental and literal sense. Everything the guy does looks clean, everything looks smooth. Very rarely can I complain of blown spots or fumbling awkwardness when Jan Evander is in the ring.
That’s not to say anything of his opponent here, Imabayashi who acted as a fantastic dance partner who could match Evander hold for hold. Imabayashi brought out some really good British-style trick wrestling early on that did a lot to lend some color and vibrancy to the opening moments of the match.
Both men spend the bulk of the match working over the other’s hand. While we don’t get any extended bouts of selling, all the hand work looks pretty good and it even pays off towards the finish. Imabayashi tries to nail the Shinjuku Driver but can’t clasp his hands together because of the damage Evander caused. That’s the kind of small bit of nerdbait selling that always warms my heart.
Of the four matches released by PWR, this stands out as the one that’s truly must see. Just clean, fun wrestling all throughout that tells a small story and tells it well. What more do you want from your wrestling?
